MSG Linked to Obesity in Landmark Study

A new study in China links MSG to increased rates of overweight and obesity; Outcome affirms disturbing results from many animal studies done previously! It actually damages your hypothalamous which controls our appetite (so we eat and eat and eat). It also causes insulin resistance so all those calories do not get burned but stored... as fat... AND is addictive... so we crave those foods over and over!

MSG is a food additive found in almost all commercially prepared food. It supercharges the taste of food, but not in the way you would think. MSG fools your brain into thinking the food you're eating tastes really great. MSG is an excitotoxin to the brain. When we consume food containing MSG, it excites the brain into the mass production of dopamine, creating a drug rush that gives us a brief sensation of well being. And because MSG is highly addictive, we keep coming back for more and end up overeating. In the process, we end up destroying our brain cells.

Food processors love MSG because it makes cheap ingredients taste great. And because it comes from an amino acid, it can be added to foods labeled 'natural' or 'organic'. It's very hard to find any canned or packaged soup, dried soup mixes, prepared meals, fast food, junk food, or Chinese food that does not contain MSG. It's in prepared gravy, salad dressing, seasoning blends and mixes, canned beans, bullion cubes, broths, chili and stews. Stores that cater to the health conscious carry many of these MSG containing items.

Because lots of people do not want to consume MSG, food processors have gone to extremes to be sure that you don't know it is in their products, and this has been allowed by the FDA. You will seldom see MSG listed on the label, because it is disguised. Here are some of the disguises:

hydrolyzed protein • autolyzed yeast • calcium caseinate • yeast extract • sodium caseinate • monopotassium glutamate • textured protein glutamate • hydrolyzed oat flour • glutamic acid • yeast nutrient • gelatin • Accent • Glutavene • Ajinomoto • whey protein • natural beef flavoring • protein isolate • natural chicken flavoring • protein concentrate • natural pork flavoring • protein • fortified flavoring • natural flavoring • protease enzymes • seasoning • enzymes • soy sauce

Note: While l-glutamate occurs naturally in soy sauce, parmesan cheese, ripe tomatoes, and some other natural foods, normal servings of these foods deliver amounts far smaller than those delivered by tiny portions of MSG … or whatever alias it goes by.

Like putting Lawry’s Seasoned Salt on foods?? Be aware that the “seasoning” in it is MSG.
But Lawry’s is far from the only or worst offender. KCF and Burger King get that award. They put MSG in just about everything on their menu!

FDA Orders Stronger Warnings for 4 Arthritis Drugs

WASHINGTON – The Food and Drug Administration is ordering stronger warnings on four medications used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

The drugs — Humira, Cimzia, Enbrel and Remicade — work by suppressing the immune system, and the FDA says that can expose some patients to serious, even fatal, fungal infections. The agency said Thursday it has received 240 reports of one such type of infection, called histoplasmosis. In at least 21 of the cases, doctors didn't initially recognize the problem, and 12 of the patients died.

The fungus that causes the infection is common in the Mississippi and Ohio river valleys. Patients should stop taking their medication and call the doctor if they develop persistent fever, cough, shortness of breath and fatigue.

Daily Ibuprofen May Cause Heart Risks

Ibuprofen may raise the risk of heart attacks and other fatal and serious problems when elderly people take it daily for arthritis. Researchers said the popular over-the-counter pain reliever was the only drug in the class that includes aspirin and other analgesics to raise the risk of serious heart disease -- along with the now-withdrawn COX-2 inhibitor Vioxx.

Merck and Co. Inc pulled Vioxx, known generically as rofecoxib, off the market in 2004 because studies showed it raised the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration now mandates a black-box warning on all COX-2 inhibitors and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, which include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and other over-the-counter pain relievers.

Dr. Daniel Solomon of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston said "Our findings suggest that rofecoxib and ibuprofen are consistently associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease events among specific patient subgroups."

So WHAT CAN You Safely Take for Arthritis Pain? MSM!

MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory agent. MSM (a natural source of sulfur) supports the HEALING of the connective tissue that is agrivated and inflamed in arthritis. It does not cover up the pain, It provides support for HEALING!!!
How much do you take?
I suggest starting with 3 (three) 1,000 mg capsules twice daily. If after 3 days the pain does not improve, increase this to 4 (four)1,000 mg capsules twice daily. If you have tried MSM before and not found it to help, it it probbly becasue you were not taking enough. Sulfur is the third largest existing mineral in the body, We NEED LOTS of it.... but it is lost in the processing of our food. The other reason MSM may not work is it you are buying a "cheap" brand, it probably has "flow agents" in it like microcrystalline cellulose". This is a fiber which binds to minerals (sulfur is a mineral)... This means when you take it much of the MSM is pulled out of the body with the fiber!!! This means you might have to take twice as much MSM of a cheap brand that you would a brand that is 100% MSM to get the same results.

School Lab Rats Freak Out on GE Food

Schools in Wisconsin are showing kids the dangers of genetically engineered (GE) junk food with some unique science class experiments. Sister Luigi Frigo repeats the experiment every year in her second grade class in Cudahy. Students feed one group of mice unprocessed whole foods. A second group of mice are given the same junk foods served at most schools. Within a couple of days, the behavior of the second group of mice develop erratic sleeping schedules and become lazy, nervous and even violent. It takes the mice about three weeks on unprocessed foods to return to normal. According to Frigo, the second graders tried to do the experiment again a few months later with the same mice, but the animals have already learned their lesson and refuse to eat the GE food.

Heart Failure Findings Favor Omega-3s over Statin Drug

Daily dose of omega-3s reduces hospital-admission and death rates modestly among people diagnosed with chronic heart failure; Statin drug shows no benefits
by Craig Weatherby

The American Heart Association and other leading health authorities recommend consuming fish oil and fatty fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, for two reasons:

1) To help prevent strokes and cardiovascular disease in healthy people.
2) To reduce the risk of stroke, sudden death, or a second heart attack among patients diagnosed with cardiovascular disease.

These recommendations flow in part from the results a very large European-American clinical trial called GISSI-Prevenzione.

According to a recent review article by Alexander Leaf, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Clinical Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the results of the GISSI-Prevenzione trial demonstrated that supplemental omega-3s yield a significant reduction in overall risk of death, risk of heart-related death, risk of non-fatal heart attacks, and stroke risk (Leaf A 2008).

Key Points:

  * Fish oil cut death risk by 8% among people with
congestive heart failure (CHF), in large clinical trial.
  * No risk reductions were seen among CHF patients taking      the common statin drug Crestor (rosuvastatin).
  * Results affirm the promise of omega-3s for protecting      overall cardiovascular health.

Dr. Leaf also cited other studies, which indicate that supplemental fish oil sharply reduces the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias among recent heart attack victims and among people with implanted cardiac defibrillators at high risk for fatal ventricular arrhythmias. As Dr. Leaf wrote, "These studies demonstrate that fish oil fatty acids have beneficial effects on coronary heart disease." (Leaf A 2008)
New trial adds congestive heart failure to list of omega-3 benefits.

NOTE: These Omega-3 oils can be found in Flax Seed Oil capsules and Fish Oils capsules.

IN BETH'S KITCHEN

I have been experimenting with Stevia... One of the things that is kind of hard to make with stevia is cookies... but these didn't turn out too bad. The raisins also provide some sweetening power so these cookies are more like reduced sugar rather than no sugar, but the nuts help lower the total glycemic index.

Sour Cream Raisin Cookies
1 cup raisins (packed)
5 ounces apple juice (water is OK too)
1/3 cup raw cashews, walnuts or almonds (coarsly ground)
1/4 cup freshly ground flax
1/2 cup butter (softened) - one stick
2 tsp. liquid stevia extract (I used cinnamon flavored)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
3 tablespoons sour cream
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. sea salt

Preparation:
Place the raisins and liquid in a small pan and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.

Coarsely grind chashews or walnuts in a blender. In a mixing bowl, cream the cashew or walnut meal and flax into the softened butter. Stir in the stevia, maple flavoring, vanilla, and slightly beaten egg.

Cream 1/3 of the stewed raisins and all of the juice in a blender. Set the rest of the raisins aside. Stir the creamed raisins into the butter mixture. Add the milk and oats.

Sift together the wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
Stir the flour into the other ingredients.
Add the rest of the raisins. Don't overmix.
Drop onto cookie sheet and flatten with the palm of the hand.

Yield: 18 cookies
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake 13 minutes.

NOTE: I also have been researching Xylitol... and was VERY disappointed in what I found...
The artificial sweetener is Actually POISONOUS to DOGS!!!! A couple pieces of sugarfree gum can KILL a small dog!!

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon liquid stevia (plain or cinnamon flavored)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts or slivered almonds
1/2 - 2/4 cup organic berry juice, unsweetened

Mix and marinate in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.

SCRIPTURE

The POWER of BELIEF
Prayer and love CAN change things.... if we believe. We can move mountains... if we believe.

Mark 11:23-24
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].

Mark 9:23
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believes.

God will give us whatever we ask for.
Matthew 7: 7-11
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Luke 8:50
But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

I have been putting this belief principal into practice... and boy are things changing!!!
