Yes, Artificial Sweeteners CAN make you FAT!!!
Scientists at Purdue University compared weight gain and eating habits in rats whose diets were
supplemented with sweetened food containing either zero-calorie saccharin or sugar.
The report, published in Behavioral Neuroscience, presents some counterintuitive findings: Animals fed with
artificially sweetened yogurt over a two-week period consumed more calories and gained more
weight — mostly in the form of fat — than animals eating yogurt flavored with glucose, a natural,
high-calorie sweetener.
It's a continuation of work the Purdue group began in 2004, when they
reported that animals consuming saccharin-sweetened liquids and snacks tended to eat more
than animals fed high-calorie, sweetened foods. The new study, say the scientists, offers stronger
evidence that how we eat may depend on automatic, conditioned responses to food that are
beyond our control.
What they mean is that like Pavlov's dog, trained to salivate at the sound of a bell, animals are
similarly trained to anticipate lots of calories when they taste something sweet — in nature, sweet
foods are usually loaded with calories.
When an animal eats a saccharin-flavored food with no
calories, however — disrupting the sweetness and calorie link — the animal tends to eat more
and gain more weight, the new study shows.
The study was even able to document at the physiological level that animals given artificial sweeteners responded differently to their food than
those eating high-calorie sweetened foods.
The sugar-fed rats, for example, showed the expected
uptick in core body temperature at mealtime, corresponding to their anticipation of a bolus of
calories that they would need to start burning off — a sort of metabolic revving of the energy
engines.
The saccharin-fed animals, on the other hand, showed no such rise in temperature. "The
animals that had the artificial sweetener appear to have a different anticipatory response," says
Susan Swithers, a professor of psychological sciences at Purdue University and a co-author of the
study. "They don't anticipate as many calories arriving." The net result is a more sluggish
metabolism that stores, rather than burns, incoming excess calories.
A University of Texas Health Science Center survey in 2005 found that people who drink diet soft
drinks may actually gain weight; in that study, for every can of diet soda people consumed each
day, there was a 41% increased risk of being overweight. So even though her findings were in
animals, says Swithers, they could lead to a better understanding of how the human body
responds to food, and explain why eating low-calorie foods doesn't always lead to weight loss.
"There is lots of evidence that we learn about the consequences about eating food," she says.
"And we have physiological responses to food that are conditioned."

A Swine Medical Mystery Unfolds in Minnesota
"The disease that confronted doctors at the Austin Medical Center in Minnesota last fall was
strange indeed. Three patients had the same highly unusual set of symptoms: fatigue, pain,
weakness, numbness and tingling in the legs and feet.
The patients had something else in common, too: all worked at Quality Pork Processors, a local
meatpacking plant.
The disorder seemed to involve nerve damage, but doctors had no ideas what was causing it." They ended up
tracing it to an affect which resulted from touching or being exposed to the brain matter of the pigs.
Being exposed to this matter caused the nervous system of workers to have an auto immune
response resulting in some serious health problems. Some workers have still not recovered.
Medical Mystery in Minnesota
QUICK UPDATE:
MYSTERIOUS BRAIN DISEASE STRIKES FACTORIES IN TWO MORE STATES
Since the outbreak of a new serious neurological disease in an Austin, MN factory farm
slaughterhouse, two additional slaughterhouses have reported workers contracting this mysterious
disease:
one in Indiana and one in Nebraska. Investigators believe the spread of the disease is
due to tiny bits of pig brains in the factory air.
God warned us not even to touch pigs (swine): Deu 14:8
And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye
shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.
And if you are under the impression that the "unclean" things of the old testament do not apply to
the new, study:
2 Corr 6:17: Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the
Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Also see Isaiah 65 where he is talking
about the second coming of Christ.
Isa 65:4: Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the
monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
Eating "clean" animals is in the best interests of our health, keeping in mind it is no longer a "sin."
(See Lev. 11) All the "clean" animals are vegetarians. Scavengers and predator animals
that eat the flesh of dead animals carry the diseases, parasites, worms, etc. of the animals they have eaten.
If you have eaten those animals, those can be passed onto you! Pigs are excellent scavengers that help
rid the barn of rats and mice (and anything else they can eat!).
If you would like me to teach on this subject to your home group or church, send me an email.
You will be blessed! Dr. Beth
How Many Pharmaceuticals are You Taking?
Heath Ledger: An Unnecessary Loss
There are little to no studies showing the effects of COMBINING pharmaceuticals. People seem to
be horribly mistaken that if a drug is prescribed by their doctor, regardless of what else they
maybe taking.... that it MUST be safe for them. The truth is that they are not. NO drug is safe.
Prescription drug deaths skyrocket 68% over 5 years
Poisoning from prescription drugs has risen to become the second-largest cause of unintentional
deaths in the United States, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, researchers found that deaths from prescription drugs
rose from 4.4 per 100,000 people in 1999 to 7.1 per 100,000 in 2004.
This increase represents a jump from 11,000 people to almost 20,000 in the span of five years.
Mike Adams, a consumer health advocate and outspoken critic of pharmaceutical companies,
said that the drug industry is freely killing Americans. "The entire drug industry, including the
monopolistic drug giants and their FDA co-conspirator, has clearly become the single greatest
threat to the health and safety of the American people," Adams said. "And yet the FDA continues
to push more drugs onto more Americans than ever before, all while pretending these drugs are
safe and effective when, in reality, they are neither.
Today's pharmaceutical industry is a massive
raud being perpetrated against the American people, propped up by illegal trade practices,
monopolistic behavior and outright criminal behavior on the part of the FDA."
We do not hear about the vast majority of these accidental deaths. We only hear about them when
a celebrity dies, such as the recent death of Heath Ledger.
I was so grieved by this loss, not only because he was so talented but because it was so
preventable. I heard and read about his problems sleeping and how he had turned to
pharmaceuticals for help. It broke my heart.
In a statement released through Ledger's publicist, Ledger's father, Kim, said Wednesday:
"While
no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed
drugs proved lethal for our boy.
Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden
dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."
"With the wrong combination of pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter drugs, herbal preparations or
alcohol, anyone can innocently concoct a caldron full of toil and trouble -- even a potion for death.
And they do, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unintentional
poisoning deaths, 95% of which are drug overdoses, increased from 12,186 in 1999 to 20,950 in
2004."

Hyper Kids? Cut Out Preservatives and Artifical Ingredients
Parents who suspect that artificial ingredients in food are affecting their children's behavior can
now point to some cold, hard proof.
A carefully designed study released Thursday in The Lancet, a
leading British medical journal, shows that a variety of common food dyes and the preservative
sodium benzoate —
an ingredient in many soft drinks, fruit juices, salad dressings and other
foods —
causes some children to become more hyperactive and distractible than usual.
Hyper Kids? Cut out Preservatives.
You need to know the Truth about Monsanto:
Monsanto is a chemical manufacturer. They are the world's leading producer of the herbicide
glyphosate, marketed as "Roundup". Monsanto is also by far the leading producer of genetically
engineered (GE) seed, holding 70%–100% market share for various crops.
They also manufacture Agent Orange, Bovine growth hormone, and... Aspartame - artificial sweetener. They
made 7.344 billion USD in 2006.
THIS is a must watch!!!
A case of bearing false witness.

Magnesium intake may cut risk of gallstones
Magnesium is great for a lot of health problems... specifically high blood pressure,
constipation, and restless leg syndrome, but new reports show that a diet rich in magnesium also
appears to reduce the risk developing painful gallstones.
Due in part to the overprocessing of foods, magnesium consumption has been declining over the
years (American Journal of Gastroenterology).
Magnesium deficiency is known to raise triglyceride levels and decrease HDL ("good")
cholesterol levels in the blood, both of which may increase the risk of developing gallstones. Still,
the long-term effect of magnesium on the risk of gallstones in humans was not known.
Data was examined from 42,705 men, between 40 and 75 years of age, who were enrolled in the
Health Professionals Follow-up Study.
The men were followed from 1986 to 2002. They found that compared with the lowest level of
total magnesium intake, the highest intake reduced the risk of gallstone disease by 33%.
The same risk reduction was seen when considering just dietary magnesium, when supplements
were excluded.
"From many studies by this group and others, it appears that a generally healthy dietary pattern,
with more plant-based foods, fiber, and increasing complex carbohydrates, and now increasing
magnesium intake will decrease the risk of symptomatic gallstones. This 'healthy' dietary pattern
will also help in prevention of other chronic diseases in addition to gallstones."
